JLM22 is a compact yet impactful millwork project designed to deliver two functional statement pieces for a downtown Vancouver condo: a media wall with a built-in electric fireplace and a king-sized hydraulic storage bed. The brief focused on maximizing both visual presence and practical storage in a limited footprint—transforming everyday furniture into architectural elements.

The media wall evolved significantly during the design process to accommodate a complete Sonos surround sound system, including in-ceiling speakers and a subwoofer discreetly located behind the couch. AV equipment is carefully concealed behind custom perforated doors, ensuring seamless operation without visual clutter. Integrated display shelving and concealed storage compartments add balance and utility to the wall’s clean lines.

To create visual continuity between the living and sleeping zones, the bed frame was designed to align precisely with the lower datum of the media wall, maintaining a consistent horizontal line visible from the sofa. The custom king bedfeatures a hydraulic lift system, allowing the couple to easily store large, seldom-used items such as suitcases, storage bins, and seasonal decor. The bed is paired with matching nightstands and drawers, completing a cohesive sleeping environment that feels as thoughtful as the main living space.
