CKR23 marks the continuation of a trusted design relationship with a returning client, who previously commissioned us for their office millwork (CMK21). For their home, the brief was to create a similar tonal palette to the office—anchored in deep blacks—but with richer textures, increased warmth, and residential tactility. The material strategy blended blackened ash, black anodized aluminum, Silestone, and smoked mirror, offering contrast and depth while remaining cohesive.

The centrepiece of the main floor is a custom-engineered media wall, which not only serves as the focal point of the living space but also overcomes significant technical challenges. Existing in-floor heating systems had to remain operable, so we designed slatted wood fronts inlaid with perforated aluminum, allowing heat to pass through while concealing the system behind a clean, linear aesthetic. The same perforated detail also hides a complete surround sound system, creating a visually minimal yet highly functional wall. The millwork transitions seamlessly from the media unit into deeper kitchen cabinets, then tapers again into shallow upper storage, establishing a sense of spatial rhythm through depth modulation. Behind the dark ash façade, we utilized exposed Baltic birch interiors for durability and material contrast.

Upstairs, the primary bedroom was fully outfitted in whitewashed oak, chosen to visually soften the private quarters. Echoing the strategy downstairs, the air conditioning unit was neatly integrated behind slatted upper cabinets, maintaining airflow while achieving a refined, built-in look. At the foot of the bed, we installed a motorized TV lift, and the opposing wall was customized with a full built-in wardrobe system to complete the space.

Additional custom details throughout the home include a bespoke stair rail system and a guest bedroom closet, designed to reflect the project’s unified material language and precision craftsmanship.
